Da Christopher Columbus kom til San

Da Christopher Columbus kom til San Salvador-øyene i Bahamas i 1492 trodde han at Karibia var en del av India. Columbus kalte derfor folket han møtte i den nye verden for ”los indios”, ”indianere”, fordi han trodde at han funnet den vestlige veien til Asia. Indere var betegnelse for folk vest for elven Indus i India.

When Christopher Columbus came to San Salvador Islands in the Bahamas in 1492 he believed that the Caribbean was part of India. Columbus called therefore the people he met in the new world of "los indios", "Indians", because he thought that he found the Western route to Asia. Indians was the designation for people West of the River Indus in India.
